[ Letting his hands slip around her, cradling her weight, Hei just stays that way for a moment. With her forehead resting against his, her eyes, taking him in, are just one blurry puddle of blue. Her aroma is redolent of sex and pheromones and bubbling excitement; a heady combination at any time. Part of him mentally salivates like a lunatic at the idea of a round-two. But cold wires of sanity are cutting through his gooey fog of Feel Good. Scathing and sharp, the voices say:

a) Your break's almost done.
b) You left your knapsack in the closet.
c) You didn't eat anything.
d) That was a stupid thing to do. ]

[ Bit-by-bit, Hei's smile fades. Gently, he sets Korra down until she's carrying her own weight. He looks drowsy-drunk as he licks his lips. Here is where the shields descend; where the armory is flung open. Here is where he shoots people in the head with his words, or cuts them with a look, leaving them frozen, executed. But to his surprise, it doesn't happen. His gaze, on Korra's, is rueful, but it's the same as before. ]

It was. [ Leaning in, he nudges his nose against hers, before detaching completely. ] But I have to get back to work.

[(A part of her still searches his face every time for signs of his walls going up. It relaxes as his eyes remain warm.)

She presses one last brief kiss to his lips before taking a step back.]

Me too. [She tries to adjust her clothes.] How obvious do I look? [Penny's pretty oblivious, but there are still plenty of other people Korra doesn't want knowing she had sex.]

Do you want the honest answer? Or the pretty lies? [ Hei asks, completely serious save for a slight quirk at the corners of his mouth. To be honest, Freshly-fucked is a look that suits her: the sexy disheveled hair, the eyes big and bright, lips swollen and neck slightly marked with pretty bruising kisses. But it's hardly what you'd call office-casual. ]

[ After a moment, he reaches out and tugs her collar up to conceal a particularly dark hickey on her neck. ] I'd suggest wearing a scarf. [ Preferably not Mako's. ]

A scarf. [Not impressed.] I'd get one, but I think that would ruin the whole point of our little cut and run. [She jerks her head towards Passione with an arched eyebrow.

She's about to make a snarky comment about how he always manages to look perfect when she remembers the scratches she gave him.]

Tell them you liked their fabrics better than the sex. [ he replies, mouth curling into a definite smile now. Part of him is already sketching a route back to the store, so he can pick up his knapsack, quick and unnoticed. He has a full bento of goodies in there and he doesn't plan to waste it. Already he can feel his stomach churning, presaging a mangled growl of Feed Me Seymour. The quickie hasn't caused it, but it's certainly made it worse. ]

[ At her question, he shrugs. ] You've given me worse. [ At least she doesn't turn as dangerous as Amber in her throes. That woman had clawed like she was marking territory. ]

[She makes a face at him. Not cute. But she's smiling.]

I'll see you later? [Take it as an open invitation for later tonight, or just a general goodbye.]

[ A nod, and Hei's already half-turning away. ] You'll see me. [ The little encounter in the closet already feels like an appetizer, a promise before the more satisfying main course. The sunlight spills golden confetti on the pavement from between the trees as he ducks back into the Cafe. At the window, he takes a moment to absorb the familiar treat of her -- at a distance, unaware. A month ago, he'd never have enjoyed the sight; he'd have gone straight back to work. ]

[ The realization sends a sharp blob of unease scuttling down his spine. ]

Li, where's the tray of angel cakes. [ The manager appears at his elbow, clapping his hands. ] C'mon, set them out.

Um. [ Wide-eyed, Hei tears his gaze away from the window. The physical colloquy in the closet already seems like hours ago. ] I haven't made them yet.

You -- Jesus, Li! Get started! We should've had two batches ready by now!!!

[ And blah blah blah. Back to work it is. ]
